1. Product Overview
Busbar Trunking (also called Bus Duct) is a new type of high-current power distribution equipment. It consists of metal enclosure, copper/aluminum conductors, insulating supports and tap-off units. It replaces the traditional solution of laying dozens of cables inside cable trays, featuring large current carrying capacity, compact structure, stable power supply and convenient tapping. It is the core main power distribution product for high-rise buildings, factories, data centers and commercial complexes.
Main types: Compact Busbar Trunking, Air Insulated Busbar, Fire Resistant Busbar, Low Voltage Plug-in Busbar.
2. Main Types & Characteristics
1. Compact Busbar Trunking (High-density Busbar)
Conductors are tightly wrapped with insulation with tiny gaps between phases. Small size, excellent heat dissipation and low impedance. Widely used in office buildings, shopping malls and factories. Rated current: 250A–6300A.
2. Air Insulated Busbar Trunking
Air gaps reserved between conductors for heat convection. Superior insulation performance, suitable for humid, dusty and high-temperature heavy-load workshops.
3. Fire Resistant Busbar Trunking
Equipped with fireproof thermal insulation layers, fire resistance rating from 0.5h to 3h. It maintains power supply for fire elevators, emergency lighting and exhaust fans during fire, complying with mandatory fire codes.
4. High Voltage Busbar Trunking
Rated for 10kV power transmission, applied to power substations, power plants and large industrial parks.
5. Lighting Busbar Trunking
Low current range 16~100A, lightweight structure for production lines and supermarket lighting tapping.
3. Core Components
1. Conductors: Tinned/silver-plated copper busbars (mainstream, high conductivity) or aluminum busbars (low cost for light load).
2. Insulation: High-temperature polyester film, mica sheet, epoxy resin, withstand voltage up to 1000V.
3. Enclosure: Powder-coated cold-rolled steel, hot-dip galvanized steel or 304 stainless steel, with dustproof, waterproof and earthing functions.
4. Tap-off Box (Plug-in Unit): Equipped with circuit breakers, can be installed at any position of busbar without power cut, easy for capacity expansion.
5. Fittings: Connectors, expansion joints, elbows, tees, reducers, end caps, supporting vertical & horizontal installation.
4. Product Advantages
1. Ultra-large current carrying capacity, max 6300A for single section, saving shaft space instead of dozens of power cables.
2. Flexible power tapping & easy expansion. New equipment can be powered by adding tap-off boxes without re-laying cables.
3. Safe and stable power supply. Continuous metal enclosure earthing prevents electric leakage and short-circuit hazards.
4. Fast modular assembly, greatly shortening construction period for vertical shafts and overhead horizontal installation.
5. Long service life over 30 years with simple routine inspection and low maintenance cost.
6. Lower power transmission loss thanks to low-resistance solid copper conductors.

Insulated busbars are closely stacked with nearly no air gaps. It features compact size, fast heat dissipation, low impedance, IP54~IP65 protection grade and strong short-circuit withstand capacity.
Application: Super high-rise office buildings, shopping malls, data centers, large factories, residential electrical shafts.
(2) Air-insulated Bus Duct
Insulated by air gaps, simple structure and low cost, yet larger dimension under the same current with average protection grade.
Application: Medium and small factories, hotels, long-distance main power distribution in hospitals.
(3) Cast Resin Bus Duct
Busbars are fully encapsulated by epoxy resin, with maximum IP68 waterproof, anti-corrosion and explosion-proof performance.
Application: Chemical plants, underground comprehensive pipe galleries, humid coastal areas, underwater power supply, sewage treatment plants.
(4) Fire-resistant / Flame-retardant Bus Duct
Its insulation and enclosure adopt fireproof and fire-resistant materials, which can maintain power supply for 60~180 minutes under 950℃ flame.
Application: Fire emergency circuits of buildings, metro tunnels, underground parking lots, standby power supply for machine rooms.
(5) Lighting Bus Duct
Light-duty low-current bus duct with multiple plug-in ports for flexible addition and removal of lamps.

FAQS
-
What is bus duct? What standards apply?
Bus duct (busbar trunking system) is prefabricated modular low-voltage power transmission equipment composed of metal housing, insulation supports and copper/aluminum conductors. Main standards: GB 7251 series, CECS 170, IEC 60865.
-
What are the mainstream types of bus ducts and their differences?
1. Compact bus duct: Dense stacked conductors, small volume, good heat dissipation, high short-circuit resistance, IP54~IP65, widely used in high-rises, data centers, shopping malls. 2. Air-insulated bus duct: Separated by air clearance, low cost, larger overall size, suitable for small factories, hotels. 3. Cast resin bus duct: Fully encapsulated by epoxy resin, IP68 waterproof, anti-corrosion, explosion-proof, for chemical plants, pipe galleries, sewage plants. 4. Fire-resistant bus duct: Fireproof insulation and shell, can maintain power supply for 60–180 min under 950℃ flame, used for fire emergency power supply. 5. Lighting bus duct: Light-load low-current type with multiple plug ports, for exhibition halls, factory lighting.
-
What determines the current carrying capacity of a fire-resistant busbar?
With the continuous increase in electrical load, busbar trunking has largely replaced cables in recent years. However, some designers and supervisors have discovered that the temperature limit in key technical parameters of busbar trunking has increased, which could pose a safety hazard...
-
Copper bus vs aluminum bus, how to choose?
Copper bus: Low resistance, low voltage drop, strong overload capacity, long service life; higher cost. Preferred for high-rise, data center, long-distance main power supply. - Aluminum bus: Low material cost, light weight; larger voltage drop, suitable for short-distance, low-load ordinary industrial plants.
-
What does IP protection grade mean for bus duct?
IPXX represents dustproof and waterproof capacity. - IP54: Dust-proof, splash-proof, for indoor ceiling, electrical shaft. - IP65: Full dust-proof, anti-spray water, for basement, humid workshops. - IP68: Fully dust-proof, long-term underwater immersion, only cast resin bus duct.
-
Common rated current range of bus duct?
Standard current: 400A, 630A, 800A, 1000A, 1250A, 1600A, 2000A, 2500A, 3150A, 4000A, 5000A, 6300A.
-
How to distinguish national standard and non-standard bus duct?
1. Conductor cross-section: Non-standard reduces copper/aluminum area to cut cost, causing overheating under full load. 2. Insulation material: Inferior insulation ages fast, easy short-circuit under high temperature. 3. Shell thickness: Thin steel shell deforms easily, poor shielding and grounding performance. 4. Accessories: Standard matched tap-off boxes, connectors, expansion joints complete; non-standard omit necessary fittings. 5. Documents: Qualification certificate, type test report, short-circuit withstand test report must be provided.
-
What complete set of accessories are needed for bus duct installation?
Straight busbar section, connection joint, tap-off box, elbow, tee, cross, expansion joint, end cap, wall bracket, hanger, insulating partition.
-
-
Can multiple tap-off boxes be installed arbitrarily on bus trunk?
Yes. The plug-in tap-off design allows power tapping at any position without re-laying cables, convenient for later capacity expansion and equipment addition.
